Three people, including the school principal, have been taken into custody by police in a significant move in the Ganga Jamna School dispute in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district, officials said on Sunday.
The Ganga Jamna School in Damoh, MP, allegedly made news after a few Hindu girls were purportedly depicted in the school’s viral social media posts donning hijabs.
The principal of the school, a teacher, and a security officer were all detained, according to the police.
SP Damoh According to Rakesh Singh, three of the accused have already been taken into custody, and more searches are being conducted to find the other two.
According to him, the suspects were brought before a judge and taken into custody afterward.
However, the accused’s attorney, Anunay Srivastava, stated, “The police have added a part to the registered case. The sessions court is closed today because it is Sunday, so an appeal will be heard on Monday.
Following the issue surrounding Ganga Jamna School, the police filed a complaint under sections 295, 506, and the Juvenile Justice Act against the school administration.
Rakesh Singh, the superintendent of police (SP) in Damoh, stated: “Yesterday, statements of two to three girls came to light. It was felt that their statement is worth considering. The investigating committee also sent that statement to us, to take cognizance of it.”
The SP added that further inquiry may reveal more sections and defendants. “Now, the statements of the people associated with the school management will be recorded, and on the basis of it further action will be taken,” the SP stated.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister, had already declared that the administration of the school will be the target of a FIR.
There are conspiracies to convert people to other religions in some parts of the state, but we won’t allow them to succeed. We have also instructed people to look into the state’s educational institutions, particularly madrassas, to see if education is being delivered improperly, Mr. Chouhan told ANI.
“In the Damoh case, we are just now receiving the report, and I’ve been told that the daughters who provided statements were coerced,” he continued. This situation is quite serious. A strict response will be given.
Due to non-compliance with the Madhya Pradesh Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools Recognition Rules 2017 and modified rules 2020, Ganga Jamuna Higher Secondary School’s affiliation had previously been suspended.
A circular claimed that the school’s library was improperly set up, its laboratories were filled with outdated equipment, and its laboratories lacked the necessary experimental supplies. There were 1,208 children enrolled at the school, and neither clean drinking water nor suitable arrangements of separate restrooms for males and girls were present.
