Adipurush’s creators kept their pledge to change parts of the dialogue that had been the source of such controversy. The talks in Adipurush’s street style received a lot of criticism. Critics and viewers specifically called out one statement delivered by actor Devdatta Nage as Bajrang as offensive: “Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka, aag bhi tere baap ki, aur jalegi bhi tere baap ki,” he stated in the moment where Bajrang sets fire to Lanka. The word “Lanka” has been substituted for “baap” in fresh prints of the Om Raut-directed movie.
In an effort to stem the PR disaster and box office decline, Adipurush’s producers, T-Series and UV Creations, have also lowered ticket rates for two days. Prior to its premiere, Adipurush garnered media attention for its astronomical advance sales and record ticket prices, with some theatres asking as much as 2,000. This made for a successful opening weekend, but Monday and Tuesday saw a dramatic decline in ticket sales, and trade analysts expect things to go worse. The producers have informed that on June 22 and 23, Adipurush tickets will now cost 150 rupees. There is, however, an unexpected catch: moviegoers will need to pay extra for 3D spectacles at the venues.
Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan play Raghav, Janaki, and Lankesh, respectively, in the Ramayana retelling Adipurush. Sunny Singh plays Shesh in the primary role, joining Devdatta Nage as Bajrang. The movie has drawn harsh criticism for depicting and visualising a famous epic as well as for the lack of refinement in its discourse.
