As part of preparations for hosting the 2036 Olympics, land in Motera, housing three ashrams—including one belonging to Asaram Bapu—is set to be acquired for the development of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, Olympic Village, and other sports facilities near the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, according to a Times of India report.
The project outlines 280 acres for the sports enclave and 240 acres for the Olympic Village. The relocation of Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, Bhartiya Seva Samaj, and Sadashiv Pragya Mandal has been proposed as part of this large-scale urban planning initiative.
A three-member committee, led by the Ahmedabad municipal commissioner, is overseeing the acquisition process, with administrative procedures already underway. The Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) is collaborating with international consultant Populous on the master plan, which involves acquiring approximately 650 acres—600 acres across Bhat, Motera, Koteshwar, and Sughad, with an additional 50 acres along the Sabarmati Riverfront.
Sources indicate that the Ahmedabad Collector’s office is ensuring legal compliance in the proceedings. Requests from the Sadashiv Pragya Mandal to retain their structures may be considered if alternative land is allocated. The acquisition also extends to residential areas such as Shivnagar and Vanzara Vaas, under the supervision of the Ahmedabad Collector’s office, with approval from a committee led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated India’s strong intent to host the 2036 Olympics, stating, “We are pushing for hosting rights of the 2036 Olympics, which will take Indian sports to new heights.”
This ambitious initiative aligns with India’s broader strategy to strengthen its global sporting presence. The master plan also considers acquiring land from the Karai Police Academy to expand sports infrastructure, reflecting the project’s vast scale.
According to AUDA officials, land demarcation around the designated areas has been completed per the master plan, paving the way for acquisition. The establishment of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave and Olympic Village is a key milestone in Ahmedabad’s Olympic preparations, positioning the city as a major hub for the prestigious international event.
