Diljit Dosanjh Faces Flak Over Chandigarh Concert, Organisers Get Notice

A show cause notice has been issued to the organizers of the Diljit Dosanjh concert in Chandigarh for violating noise regulations.

The Chandigarh Union Territory administration stated that during the concert on December 14, the sound levels exceeded the permitted 75 decibels. Readings at three different locations ranged from 76 to 93 decibels.

The authorities informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court about the breach on Wednesday and recommended taking strict action against the violators. The court acknowledged the information and adjourned the hearing until January.

Diljit Dosanjh sparked controversy on Monday when a post on X led to the ‘Punjab vs Panjab’ debate. Upon his arrival in Chandigarh, he posted the word “Panjab” without the Indian flag emoji, which led social media users to accuse him of deliberately omitting the symbol. In response, he explained that the name ‘Punjab’ translates to ‘Panj’ (five) and ‘Ab’ (rivers), and that spelling variations in English do not alter the state’s identity. He also defended his tweet, stating that missing the tricolour emoji was not a conspiracy.

Meanwhile, singer AP Dhillon’s show in Chandigarh, originally set for December 21 at the Sector 34 exhibition ground, has been moved to the Rally Ground.
