Financial influencer Abhishek Kar, who has nearly 3 million followers on Instagram, issued a public apology for remarks he made about “tantric practices” in Assam. His apology came after the Assam Chief Minister’s Office called for action against him for making “unacceptable comments” about the state during a podcast.
A statement from the CMO referenced a YouTube video from the channel “Riya Upreti,” where Abhishek Kar was seen making controversial remarks about Assam’s history and traditions. The CMO requested appropriate action against him for spreading misinformation, sharing an image of Kar in their post.
Responding swiftly, Director General of Police GP Singh confirmed, “Noted Sir. Lawful action shall be taken.”
Shortly after, Abhishek Kar shared a video apology beneath the CMO’s post and revealed that he had asked the podcaster to remove the offensive clip.
“Apologies to everyone, including @CMOfficeAssam, @gpsinghips, and anyone else hurt by my words. It was never my intention to offend, and I will ensure such incidents don’t occur again,” he wrote.
In the video, Kar appeared with folded hands, expressing regret for the podcast content that had upset people. “I did not mean to create controversy or hurt anyone. I am sincerely sorry for the impact my words had,” he stated.
He also acknowledged the importance of verifying information more carefully from reliable sources before discussing sensitive topics in public forums.
Kar, known for his expertise in investments and startups, is a prominent “finfluencer” with nearly 2 million subscribers on YouTube. His Instagram account attracts close to 3 million followers.
The controversy stemmed from comments Kar made during a podcast with entrepreneur Riya Upreti, where he claimed that women in Assam’s Mayong could allegedly transform humans into goats using supernatural powers and reverse the process to engage in tantric rituals.
