All national health institutions have been given instructions by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to set up committees to look into sexual harassment claims made against any of their staff members in accordance with the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act’s guidelines.
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013 must be implemented in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines, the commission stated in a statement to institutions and medical colleges.
As a result, all medical colleges are urged to follow the Supreme Court’s directives, which are listed below.
“All health institutions/medical colleges are directed to undertake a time-bound exercise to verify as to whether the medical colleges/institutions have established ICCSs/LCSs/ICs, as the case may be, and that the composition of the said committees is strictly in accordance with the provisions of the POSH Act,” the National Medical Commission said.
“The institutions shall ensure that the necessary information regarding the constitution and composition of the ICCS/LCS/ICs, details of the e-mail IDs and contact of the designated persons, the prescribed procedure for submitting an online complaint, as well as the relevant rules, regulations and internal policies, are made readily available on the website of the institution/organisation/authority/functionary/body,” it continued.
