Delhi experienced a dramatic shift in weather, with rain and cold winds making for a chilly Friday morning. Light rain and drizzle were reported across various parts of Delhi-NCR, accompanied by a foggy layer that reduced visibility. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a minimum temperature of 12°C and a maximum of 20°C.
The IMD has forecasted “thunderstorms with rain” for both Friday and Saturday, signaling more showers ahead for the capital.
An orange alert has been issued, predicting light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning. The IMD has cautioned residents about potential disruptions, including traffic congestion, slippery roads, and longer travel times. Citizens are advised to adhere to traffic advisories and exercise caution.
“Refrain from touching exposed electric wires and avoid standing near electric poles. Stay away from objects that conduct electricity,” the IMD warned.
Residents, however, seem to be enjoying the weather, which many say feels reminiscent of a hill station. Deepak Pandey, a local resident, shared, “The weather feels like Kashmir. It’s so pleasant for traveling. Despite the cold, the rain has significantly reduced pollution levels.”
Despite the showers, the air quality remains unaffected. At 8 a.m., Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 372, categorized as “very poor.”
In light of reduced visibility, IndiGo issued a travel advisory, stating: “With intermittent rain expected throughout the day in #Delhi, please plan your journey accordingly. We recommend checking your flight status before heading to the airport to stay updated on any schedule changes.”
