The “home of cricket” is now officially in India, according to Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, who expressed his happiness on Monday about being invited to watch the ICC Cricket World Cup final in India. He said that it was an honor for him to attend the match last night.
At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, Mr. Marles and Prime Minister Narendra Modi witnessed the India vs. Australia ICC Cricket World Cup final.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have attended the game last night.I express my gratitude and appreciation to India for organizing such a fantastic tournament over the past six weeks. It showcased cricket to the entire world.”In a modern sense, India is truly the home of cricket now,” Mr. Marles stated in Delhi on Monday during the second India-Australia 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue.
Notably, Australia defeated home crowd India in a thrilling match to win its sixth cricket world cup at Narendra Modi Stadium.
“And I believe that the pilgrimage that all of us who are passionate about cricket want to take right now is to this nation. And for me, seeing cricket being played here in India was the realization of a lifelong dream, and I believe that our countries’ mutual love of the game captures the essence of our relationship,” he continued.
Earlier on Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles visited the National War Memorial in Delhi and laid a wreath.
The two Australian leaders, along with their Indian counterparts, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, are co-chairing the India-Australia 2+2 Ministerial dialogue.
An official statement stated that a wide range of strategic, defense, and security issues are expected to be discussed between the two countries during the second India-Australia 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue, which is being held in the nation’s capital today.
The 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue is also a chance to advance their joint efforts to create the kind of region they desire and a pillar of the Australia-Indian relationship.
Prior to the game, Australia chose to bowl first and dismissed India for 240 runs in 50 overs. Important runs were scored by captain Rohit Sharma (47 in 31 balls, four boundaries and three sixes), Virat Kohli (54 in 63 balls, four boundaries), and KL Rahul (66 in 107 balls, one four). This was on a challenging batting surface.
For Australia, Mitchell Starc (3/55) was the best bowler. Josh Hazlewood (2/60) and captain Pat Cummins (2/34) both bowled well. Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa each claimed a wicket.
India got off to a great start in their chase of 241 and had the Australians down at 47/3. Travis Head (137 in 120 balls, 15 fours and 4 sixes) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 in 110 balls, 4 boundaries) both knocked the Indian side out of the game with a six-wicket victory.
Jasprit Bumrah also took two wickets, and Mohammed Shami took one.
For his century, Travis received the “Player of the Match” award.
