House’s Good Luck”: PM Modi Gratifies Om Birla for Winning Speaker of the Lok Sabha Election

PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s motion was approved by voice votes on Wednesday, making Om Birla, the NDA’s choice, the speaker of the Lok Sabha for the second time.

Following the Opposition’s failure to push for votes on the motion, which had put forth Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh as their nominee, Pro-tem Speaker B Mahtab made the announcement.

Mahtab said, “I declare Om Birla elected as the speaker.”

Birla was soon escorted to the chair by Modi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who had gone to his place in the front row of the Treasury benches.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition and the Congressman, also joined them. Rahul Gandhi shook hands with the prime minister and greeted Birla.

Following that, Birla was led by Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and Rijiju to a chair, where Mahtab greeted him and said, “This is your chair; please take it.”

WHAT PM MODI SAID

It is the House’s great fortune, respected speaker, that you are sitting in this chair for a second time. I extend my congratulations to you and the entire House, said Narendra Modi.

The prime minister also praised Birla’s mannerisms, saying that his grin makes the lawmakers happy. “I have no doubt that the accomplishments of the 17th Lok Sabha will make the nation proud. Under your chairmanship, this House was able to carry out the works that were not completed throughout our 70 years of independence, the speaker stated.

The Prime Minister further mentioned that Om Birla is the second member of parliament to be nominated for the Lower House Speaker position, following Balram Jakhar, who was also elected to the Lok Sabha twice.

Jakhar served for nine years and thirty-nine days.

There are several turning points in the lengthy history of democracy. There are only a few times like this when we get to set milestones, Prime Minister Modi stated, highlighting Birla’s achievements as a member of the legislature for his district.

He said that he fought to reduce poverty and promote the development of women and children in his Kota constituency.
