Addressing a rally in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a new attack on the Congress, claiming, “It is a mureed (follower) of Pakistan.” He stated, “Congress is dying here, and Pakistan is crying there…” Pakistan wants a weak government in India, similar to the one that existed prior to 2014, a government that allowed for terrorist strikes in Mumbai.”

After much speculation, the Congress is poised to declare their candidates for the historic Nehru-Gandhi seats of Amethi and Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. The deadline to register nominations for Amethi and Rae Bareli is Friday. These constituencies will go to the polls in the fifth phase on May 20.

In other developments, Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, will campaign for the party’s Gujarat candidates today. “Sunita Kejriwal will participate in roadshows of the party candidates in Bharuch and Bhavnagar seats on Thursday,” the party said in a statement. The AAP’s candidates in Bharuch and Bhavnagar are Chaitar Vasava and Umesh Makwana, who are both current MLAs. Sunita has taken command of the AAP’s Lok Sabha election campaign while the Delhi Chief Minister is in Tihar Jail on charges related to the liquor policy case.
