A Personnel Ministry order names Sadanand Vasant Date, the head of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad, as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Date is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Maharashtra cadre, class of 1990.
According to the March 26 order, Date has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the NIA by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for a term ending on December 31, 2026, upon his superannuation.
He will succeed Dinkar Gupta, who is due to superannuate on March 31.
The ACC also appointed Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre, as the Director General of the Bureau of Police Research & Development. He will have a tenure up to his superannuation on June 30, 2026, the order said.
Sharma will succeed Balaji Srivastava, who completes his tenure at March end.
Piyush Anand will be the new chief of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Anand, an Uttar Pradeshbred IPS officer from 1991, is currently the Central Industrial Security Force’s Special DG (CISF).
According to the order, he has been designated as the DG of the NDRF for a two-year term. After Atul Karwal retires on March 31, Anand will take his place. Additionally, S Suresh, an IPS officer from Kerala cadre who was appointed in 1995, was named by the ACC as the Special Protection Group’s (SPG) Additional Director General.
