World Population Day

According to officials, two remains were discovered while the hunt for those missing following a boat capsize in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district resumed on Friday morning.

District Magistrate Pranav Kumar told PTI the bodies of a 40-year-old man and a 4-year-old boy had been pulled from the river by fishermen.

Searches are being conducted to find the other missing people, he said.

On Thursday morning, a boat carrying around 30 people crashed near Madhur Patti ghat on the Bagmati river while it was en route to Bhattgama ghat on the other side. Eleven people, including women and school-age children, went missing as a result.

Soon after the catastrophe, twenty kids were saved, he continued.

Along with the SDRF, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is looking for the remaining nine people who have gone missing.

In the neighbourhoods close to the ghat, district officials are currently knocking on doors to see if any children are missing, according to Kumar.

A facility for performing post-mortem exams has been put up nearby the ghat, and a team of doctors are also camped there, according to him.

The DM stated that “senior district administration officials are overseeing the entire operation.”
