“21 Days Won’t Make a Difference”: What the Court Said About Arvind Kejriwal Bail.

The Supreme Court granted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal bail today to campaign in the current Lok Sabha elections. The court ordered the leader’s surrender on June 2 for interrogation in an accused money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy.
Here are the key lines from today’s Supreme Court verdict on Arvind Kejriwal:

“Granting Kejriwal temporary release for 21 days will make little impact. A few days here and there shouldn’t make a difference.
“We are passing an interim order, giving him interim bail till 1st June.”

– “He will surrender on June 2.”

– “The ED’s Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) was registered in August 2022 while the chief minister was arrested on March 21 this year.”

“He (Kejriwal) was out there for 1.5 years. He may have been detained earlier or later, but nothing like that happened.”

– “The bail conditions will be similar to those imposed on AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who was given bail last month in connection with the case.”

The Delhi Chief Minister was detained by the ED in March in a corruption case involving the now-defunct Delhi liquor policy.
The ED claims that the Delhi liquor policy 2021-22 generated an abnormally high profit margin of 12% for wholesalers and approximately 185% for retailers. The investigation into the Delhi liquor policy case focused heavily on an alleged network of intermediaries, businesspeople, and politicians known as the “South Group” by central authorities.
