Thieves reportedly left behind a 500 rupee note at a home in Sector 8 in New Delhi’s Rohini neighbourhood after finding nothing worth stealing, according to police.
The strange episode, which took place on the night between July 20 and 21, came to light after the homeowner complained.
M. Ramakrishna, an 80-year-old retired engineer, claimed in his complaint that he and his wife visited their son in Gurugram on the evening of July 19 before filing the complaint.
“On July 21, he got a call in the early morning from a neighbour warning him of a theft at his house. He hurried to his house as soon as he heard the news and saw that the main gate’s lock was broken. He discovered inside that burglars could not steal anything, according to the police.
He told police that nothing had been taken, although he did discover a 500 note next to the main gate, according to police.
He also admitted to authorities that he didn’t keep any priceless items in his house. Almirahs were undamaged, he claimed.
Police have opened an investigation based on his complaint and are looking for the thieves using the appropriate provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
Police stated that more investigations were started.
