Passengers Assault Driver, Flee With Taxi In Thane, Case Filed: Cops

An official stated on Thursday that the police in Thane, Maharashtra, have started looking for six people who are suspected of hiring a cab but then taking off with it after robbing and injuring the driver.

The incident happened on Wednesday when the complainant, who works for a cab company with an app, made a reservation from Badlapur to Thane. According to the driver Abdul Sayyed Ren’s (38) allegation, six people entered the vehicle.

The six are accused of attacking the driver, stealing his phone and money, then driving off with the car as the car came to a remote area close to the Ulhas river. According to the police, the overall cost of the robbery, including the value of the car, was 8.11 lakh rupees.

The Indian Penal Code sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to inflict death or great bodily harm), according to the Badlapur West police, have both been registered as cases, but no arrests have been made as of yet, the official continued.
