Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, is not expected to appear before the CBI on Thursday to be questioned about a case involving illegal mining that was filed five years ago and in which he is a witness, according to party sources.
The former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh is expected to attend the PDA’s “Picchda (backward classes), Dalit and Alpsankhyak (minorities)” meeting at the party headquarters here. As of right now, they said, the minister has no plans to travel elsewhere.
Rajpal Kashyap, the state president of the Samajwadi Party’s backward wing, responded to a query by telling PTI, “Akhileshji will attend a meeting of PDA at the party office today.” “He will not be leaving. Rajendra Chowdhury, spokesman for the Samajwadi Party, stated that “he will be attending a meeting in Lucknow.”
He told Mr. Yadav, “I don’t have detailed information regarding this,” in reference to the CBI notice. But he will definitely not be traveling to Delhi today.” According to officials, the CBI has requested that Yadav appear before it on February 29 in a notice sent under section 160 of the CrPC. A police officer conducting an investigation may call witnesses under this section.
“The accuser is not him. He is a witness,” PTI was informed by a senior official who was aware of the development.
Yadav is being called in cases related to mining leases that were allegedly issued without following the e-tendering procedure. The investigation was ordered by the Allahabad High Court.
During Yadav’s tenure as chief minister, from 2012 to 2016, it is alleged that public employees permitted illicit mining and unlawfully extended licenses in defiance of the National Green Tribunal’s mining ban.
Yadav attacked the BJP in response to the notice in the cases filed in 2019, declaring, “The SP is on the maximum target (of the BJP).” 2019 saw the Lok Sabha elections, so I received notices about certain issues at that time. Now that another election is quickly approaching, I’m receiving notices once more.” “I am aware that notice will be sent out prior to the election. Why am I feeling so anxious? “Why are you nervous, given that you (BJP) have accomplished so much in the last ten years?” he asked.
