World Population Day

According to an official today, a jawan of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) who was part of cricket legend Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar’s security detail allegedly shot himself at his hometown of Jamner town.
The man is known as Prakash Kapde, who had apparently taken a quick trip to his ancestral home.

The 39-year-old Kapde, along with his brother, parents, wife, and two small children, survived his self-inflicted neck wound with his service gun.

The incident happened at the victim’s home this morning at around 1:30 am, according to Senior Police Inspector Kiran Shinde of Jamner Police Station. The precise circumstances surrounding the reported suicide are being investigated.

Mr. Shinde guardedly told news agency IANS, “As per preliminary investigations, he may have taken the extreme step owing to certain personal reasons, but we are waiting for the full details of the probe.”

Kapde’s body has been sent for an autopsy and the Jamner Police have filed an accidental death report pending further investigations, including questioning his family members, colleagues and other acquaintances.

The SRPF is likely to conduct its independent inquiry into the incident as the matter involves a jawan assigned to VVIP security, sources told IANS.
