‘Stabbed Saif Repeatedly, Our Priority Was…’: Kareena Kapoor Recalls Attack

Kareena Kapoor Khan recounted the terrifying attack on her husband, actor Saif Ali Khan, at their Bandra residence in the early hours of Thursday. While recording her statement with the Bandra Police, she described the harrowing moment when she witnessed the assailant repeatedly stabbing Saif.

“The attacker was extremely aggressive. I saw him strike Saif multiple times. Our immediate concern was getting Saif to the hospital,” Kareena stated. She also noted that the intruder fled the scene without taking any valuables.

According to Kareena, Saif was trying to shield their children, Taimur and Jehangir (Jeh), from harm. When the assailant couldn’t reach Jeh, he viciously turned on Saif, stabbing him several times.

Following the violent incident, Kareena, deeply shaken, went to her sister Karisma Kapoor’s home, while Saif underwent emergency surgery. “I was terrified after the attack, so Karisma took me in,” she added.

Saif Ali Khan suffered six stab wounds, one of which caused a spinal fluid leak when fragments of the knife became lodged in his spine. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors at Lilavati Hospital performed surgery. Medical staff have since reported that he is recovering well and is expected to be discharged in a few days.

What Initial Investigations Revealed

Preliminary findings indicate that the break-in lasted about 30 minutes. Investigators believe the intruder scaled a neighboring compound wall to access the building. Familiar with the layout, he took a rear staircase to reach Saif’s floor and entered through a fire escape.

A nurse caring for Jeh Eliyama Philips was the first to encounter the attacker. She reported that he demanded ₹1 crore before Saif intervened and was subsequently attacked.

Two CCTV recordings have surfaced. One shows the masked intruder carrying a bag and climbing the stairs before entering Saif’s apartment. Another video, from the sixth floor, captures him using the staircase to flee. The man has not been seen since.

Investigation Status

Mumbai police have recorded over 30 statements, including that of a carpenter who worked at Saif’s residence two days before the attack. One person was detained on Friday but released after it was determined he was uninvolved.

No arrests have been made yet. Authorities have formed 20 teams, including 10 from the Crime Branch, to investigate. CCTV footage from across the Bandra area has been seized to aid the inquiry.
