Delhi Professor Who Got Leaves Sanctioned Posing As Lt Governor Arrested

Professor Arrested

The Delhi Police detained an assistant professor at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) on Wednesday for allegedly impersonating Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and making calls on his behalf.
In September 2022, when Rohit Singh arrived from the UK, he was detained at the IGI Airport for making a call on behalf of the Lt Governor, according to reports.

The officials claim that Mr. Singh called the IP University Vice Chancellor twice on a landline phone while posing as the Lt. Governor.

In the first incident, Mr. Singh was successful in getting his leave approved, and in the second occurrence on September 30, 2022, he attempted to get his sister hired as a professor in the GGSIPU’s English Department.

After Mr. Singh’s second call to the university, the incident was reported.

The Vice Chancellor had phoned the Lt Governor’s Secretariat to confirm the validity of the conversation, but they denied making any such call and asked him to report the incident to police, according to the officials.

“During the investigation, it was revealed that Rohit Singh, an Assistant Professor in the Economics Department of the University, had made the call, posing as the LG, for the appointment of his sister Manvi Singh in the English Department of the University. From the call detail record of the Vice Chancellor’s landline number, it was revealed that the call was made from a UK-based number,” a senior official said.

According to him, Mr. Singh left India on September 27 to pursue certain academic goals in the UK.

A Look-Out Circular was issued against him once his name was discovered during the investigation. The father and sister of Mr. Singh were also detained by police on charges related to criminal conspiracy and the IT Act.
