As studying abroad becomes more expensive and restrictive, global universities are increasingly turning to India as both a talent hub and an expansion destination. Amid this shift, France’s KEDGE Business School has entered the Indian education space through a partnership-based model, signalling a new approach to international learning.
Traditionally, Indian students have preferred countries like the US, UK, Canada, and Australia for higher education. However, rising costs, stricter visa policies, and changing job markets are now pushing both students and institutions to explore alternatives. At the same time, these countries are also looking to establish a stronger presence within India, where demand for global education continues to grow.
This development aligns with stronger education ties between India and France, highlighted during discussions between Emmanuel Macron and Narendra Modi. Both nations aim to increase the number of Indian students in France from around 10,000 to 30,000.
Partnership Model in Mumbai
Instead of launching a standalone campus, KEDGE has partnered with Vijaybhoomi University in Mumbai. This collaborative approach allows the institution to adapt to local culture and academic needs while leveraging existing infrastructure.
The partnership began with a four-year BBA programme, offering students the flexibility to study in India initially and later move to France. Graduates can earn either a joint degree in India or complete their education in France.
Future Plans and Courses
Starting September 2026, KEDGE plans to introduce Master of Science programmes in areas like supply chain management and sports management. An Executive MBA and additional postgraduate courses are also expected by 2027.
The focus on supply chain education reflects changing global business needs, where companies are seeking professionals capable of managing disruptions and complex international networks.
Focus on Skills and AI
KEDGE is also integrating artificial intelligence into its curriculum, treating it as a core skill. Students are encouraged to use AI tools while maintaining critical thinking and human judgment—skills increasingly valued by employers.
The institution is also building partnerships with companies to improve employability, offering students better career pathways through industry connections.
A Changing Global Education Landscape
KEDGE’s expansion into India is part of a broader trend where international institutions are moving closer to emerging markets. With accessibility, affordability, and job readiness becoming key factors, India is fast emerging as a major global education destination.
