In Chamoli, Uttarakhand, a portion of a major roadway washed away today due to a landslip brought on by torrential rain, trapping tourists. Near Chhinka in the Chamoli district, National Highway 7, which leads to Badrinath, is partially blocked by debris.
A flash flood and landslides stopped the national highway connecting Mandi and Kullu in adjoining Himachal Pradesh, leaving 200 persons, the majority of whom were tourists, stranded and subject to a 15-km-long traffic gridlock.
According to a report by the news agency PTI, 34 people have been hurt and three more are missing after incidents related to the rain in Himachal Pradesh claimed the lives of 19 people.
